It has been designed to answer specific industry needs and is the only project of its kind that gives newcomers an intensive, mentor-led, fast track into the industry while receiving full exposure to every aspect of the film-making process in a professional, industrial environment. Graduates from Jumpcut 2016 moved into roles on productions including Outlander, Jonathan Creek and Hush. In previous years, Jumpcut graduates have gone on to various opportunities in the screen industry, including paid BBC traineeships, BFI Film Academy programmes, short film commissions and roles with production companies. In the past, participants have had the chance to learn from Brian Coffey (Producer, Starred Up), Paddy Higson (Producer, The Magdalene Sisters), Zam Salin (Director, Up There), Grant Cameron (Producer, Orphans), Colin Monie (Editor, Shetland), Dave Arthur (Editor, God Help the Girl) and Susan Clark (1st Assistant Director, BBC Drama). Under the guidance of professional industry mentors, participants learned about pre-production, production and post-production, and were given the opportunity to undertake production roles that a majority of them had never done before.Įach Jumpcut production was based at Film City Glasgow and supported by Sigma Films staff, as well as specific project staff and industry mentors. The selected crew were then placed in defined roles that are directly relevant to their career ambitions and skillsets, enabling them to develop hands-on experience in an industry environment. We recruited young people who demonstrated experience in or commitment to different areas within the industry, ranging from electricians and hair and make-up designers to location managers, editors and directors. Each year, around 25 young people aged 16–25 formed a production company to make a professional, budgeted short film.
